Enrichment Opportunities at Richmond State School
Richmond State School's 2021 Explicit Improvement Agenda has a strong focus on a student-centred approach to heightening student outcomes in a variety of learning area. We have provided this opportunity in a variety of ways in 2021.
Students in Years 3-6 had the opportunity to engage in literacy or numeracy-based enrichment programs called 'Just Write', 'Solve It' or 'Write On' via the IMPACT Learning Centre. During this program students participated in online lessons delivered by a specialist teacher from the IMPACT Centre for 12 weeks. The courses gave our students the opportunity to link in with like-minded students from other small schools and learn together. Richmond State School students are supported on-site by a staff member while accessing the program and developing their computer and numeracy or writing skills.
Students in Years 4-10 also had the opportunity to participate in Online ICAS Assessments in the subject areas of English, Mathematics and Science. We are looking forward to receiving their results in the coming weeks and celebrating their achievements with them.
In Term 4, we are excited to be able to provide an opportunity for students in Years 5-10 to participate in the Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program. The Youth Leadership Program is a workshop consisting of six (6) one-hour sessions that enables young people under the age of 18 to develop their communication and leadership skills including their own speaking ability; preparing and giving speeches; giving impromptu talks; controlling their voice, vocabulary and gestures; and giving constructive feedback and more.
