RSS Newsletter 2025 Issue 3
Principal
Welcome to our last newsletter for Term 1! Time sure flies when you are having fun and what an
amazing term we have had.
STATE SWIMMING
I would like to start by congratulating our State Swimmers for their amazing efforts in Brisbane. Many
students achieved personal bests and have been exemplary representatives for Richmond State
School and the North Queensland Region. Well done to families and swimming coaches for their
commitment to training and travelling to these events.
We have also just completed the 2025 NAPLAN testing period which saw all Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
students complete testing across 6 areas, writing, reading, numeracy and language conventions. All
students must be commended on their participation during these tests. The results from these tests
should be out in Term 3. Please keep in mind these are not used for reporting purposes but will
inform our teaching program.
STAFFING
For the last 2 weeks of this term and all of term 2 we will have Mrs Sharon Graham working with us as a local relief teacher. Sharon is an experienced teacher who is out and about travelling. We are very lucky to have her stop in Richmond with us for a few months. Please join me in making Sharon feel welcome in our community.
Next term Mrs Cheryle Stainkey will be taking extended leave from week 3, returning later in the
year. We wish her all the best whilst on leave. Whilst on leave, Mrs S. will be replaced by Mrs Amy
Jeffery.
Finally, we will welcome Mr Scott Jeffery our new Deputy Principal who will be arriving in Richmond
on the holidays with his family. We are all very excited to have the Jeffery family be part of our
amazing school.
STUDENT COUNCIL
This term the Student Council have been discussing fundraising opportunities along with community
service opportunities. Their first fundraising task is a “Guess the Easter Egg” competition taking place
in Week 10. Guesses will be 50 cents each. Students will be able to meet the student council reps
under A block before school to buy their guesses.
Student Council will also be buying every student a Zooper Dooper to end the term. Students will get
these at 2:30pm on the last day of school.
BRAIN TEASER
From now on, I will be putting a brain teaser into the newsletter for all our families and community
members to work on. The first person to email me at rflic2@eq.edu.au with the answer will win a
prize.
I am taken from a mine and shut up in a wooden case, from which I am never released, and yet I am used by almost everybody. What am I?
I would like to finish by saying a big thank you to all our amazing staff who work tirelessly to teach all
students and give them a quality education. I am very fortunate to work in this amazing school and community.
Have a wonderful Easter break and I look forward to working with you all in Term 2.
Until next time,

Deputy Principal
I truly enjoyed my week in Week 7 at Richmond State School and it was a fantastic experience meeting everyone and getting to know the school community. During my time there, I was able to conduct a number of walkthroughs into the classrooms and see firsthand the engagement of the students, which was truly inspiring. It's clear to see what an amazing place Richmond State School is, filled with enthusiastic staff and students. I'm thrilled about the opportunity to join this vibrant school community and look forward to moving with my family to Richmond next term.

Awards
Awards are an acknowledgement of your hard work and dedication to your studies.
Congratulations to recipients who received awards in Week's Seven, Eight and Nine.

Y-Lead
In 2025, Y-Lead was held in Week Eight. Our students from Years 5 to 10 spent time learning about what it takes to be a leader and learn that nothing is too small to make a difference. Wednesday, we had our year 5 and 6 students participating, Thursday the year 7 - 10 students attended and finally on Friday we had our Student Leaders participate in a separate session. Student Leaders engaged in a more intensive program, looking at what it takes to be successful in leadership.
Many thanks to the wonderful Y-Lead team who have inspired our students to be the future leaders we know they can be.

Classrooms
Year 2
In Science this Term, 2T have been learning all about materials and their properties. We have been exploring how to combine materials for different purposes and why certain materials are used when making objects. Students were tasked with designing and creating a lunch box for Miss Flick which could hold an orange and a sandwich and be wiped down with a sponge. After learning about the properties of different materials, students created a diagram of their design. We used recyclable materials to construct the lunchboxes. All students did a fantastic job demonstrating their creativity and knowledge of materials!
Last week, students conducted an experiment where they tested their lunch boxes strength and water resistance. It was a great success as all lunchboxes were able to hold Miss Flick’s lunch! Students then recorded their observations and evaluated their design.
Sport
Over the past week, we have had 6 students travel to Brisbane for the State Swimming Trials. These students have represented their school and district phenomenally. Congratulations to Reagan, Devon, Alexa, Lacie, Lane and Billie who qualified for this sporting event that was held at the Chandler Centre.
What an achievement.

Chewsday and Friday Breakfast Club

Parents and Citizens
Welcome back to the 2025 school year, I hope everyone had a great Christmas break. It feels like the year has only just started and we are already at the end of Term 1.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped and supported the P&C in 2024.
We recently held our AGM, and elected our 2025 committee. Our committee members for 2025 are:
President – Sherreen Johnston
Vice Presidents – Emma Gough and Renee Backer
Secretary – Emily McKenzie
Treasurer – Vacant
We have recently farewelled our Treasurer, Jodie Fox and are looking to fill her position at our upcoming meeting. We thank her for all her time, commitment and contributions to the Richmond State School P&C over the years. Jodie has been a true asset to our committee and an absolute pleasure to work with, we will miss her!
Weve started off the year with a number of different fundraisers
- Sausage Sizzle in front of Moonstone on Saturday the 15th of March
- Our BIG RAFFLE of 2025 – Yamaha buggy. Tickets are available around town and online until Field Days where it will be drawn
- Annual Easter Raffle which will be drawn the last day of term at the Easter Bonnet Parade
We encourage all parents to become a member of the P&C. You are not tied down to attending meetings and every fundraiser. Being a member will mean you receive email correspondence of meetings and will be able to email in with your say on how you would like us to support Richmond State School. If every parent within our school community could commit to helping with 1 fundraiser a year, we as a committee could achieve so much.
I would like to share with everyone reading this, that the P&C supports every student who attends Richmond State School, from our Prep through to Year 10 students. When you look around our little school you will see a number of things that we as a P&C group have contributed to over the years, whether it be big or small.
To show you the ways in which we have contributed to the school over the past few years, please see the below list of some of the things we have done
- Prep – Year 2 playground
- Shade over the Years 3 – 10 Playground
- 3D Printers
- Free school shirt, hat and stationary voucher
- Highschool student lockers
- Camp contributions
- State Sporting contributions
When you become a member of the P&C and help support our fundraisers which contribute to the betterment of our school and school community you are a part of making all these things possible for our students of today and our students of the future.
