Parent Teacher Interviews
Our bi-annual Parent Teacher Interviews have been scheduled for Tuesday 10th May 2022. It has been wonderful to see so many parents and guardians booking in time with teachers to gain valuable feedback on their child/children's learning. I encourage all parents to make contact with their child's teacher to ensure you are fully aware of their learning goals, their progress and their next steps.
ITD / Manual Arts Training
During Week 3, we welcomed Mr Aaron McMahon to Richmond State School. Aaron is a regional ITD (Industrial Technology and Design) Mentor who supports capability development of staff and has a long history as a Manual Arts Teacher. During his visit he provided support to our teacher and teacher aide staff to induct them into our newly refurbished manual arts area and also hosted a number of student workshops. We look forward to creating many more manual arts projects with the students throughout the year.

Head of Department - Curriculum
Term 2 already! Isn’t it going fast, especially with the first three weeks being short weeks. There are lots of extra curricula events coming up this term – Book fair, National Simultaneous story telling day, Parent Teacher interviews, upper school Science Astronomy night, Officer T-Bears birthday, year 7 & 10 students school vaccinations, various school sport trials, NAPLAN online, Premiers Reading Challenge, Under 8s morning and numerous specialist and support personnel visits. Most of these events were listed on the term calendar that was distributed in week 1 and 2, however at times, the dates may change and new events pop up. Changes are published on the school Facebook Page and Schoolzine app.
Parent Curriculum Overviews
Wondering what your child is learning? Each term, the teachers produce a Parent Curriculum Overview for every year level to let you know what your child is learning in their classroom for every key learning area. The Curriculum overviews outline the learning journey and summary of what students will be learning and how they will be assessed. All the staff at Richmond State School value the terrific assistance you give at home, which supports the work your child does at school as detailed in these overviews. Parent Curriculum Overviews will be distributed during week 3, please keep an eye out for them.
NAPLAN Online
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) begins in week 4 and continues into week 5. During this time students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will undertake tests that cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. The types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. NAPLAN is a point in time assessment that allows teachers and parents to see how their child is progressing, how well they are learning those essential skills and provide additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about the students progress and their next step in learning. The schedule for the tests are detailed in the timetable below. For your child to give their best effort, encourage them to give their best effort and to have a go, ensure they have a good night sleep and provide them with a nourishing breakfast throughout the testing period. Further information and support can be found on https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/parent-carer-support or call in and have a chat with myself or your child’s teacher.

ANZAC
Friday 22nd of April Richmond State School held an ANZAC day service. The service was hosted by our highschool students. It was wonderful to see students show respect for our diggers.
Thankyou to all the students and staff that attended the 2022 Community ANZAC Day march. Liam, Torah and Andrew spoke beautifully, even after a gust of wind gave Torah an unexpected shower.

Sport
Antony from Cricket Australia visited Richmond State School in week one to refine some bowling, fielding and batting skills with our year 1/2 and 3/4 classes. The students had an absolute blast with Antony, as well as the teachers!
A huge congratulations to Mikayla and Torah for being selected into the North West Touch Football team. Unfortunately, due to a clash in State Championship dates for Touch Football and Netball, Mikayla has chosen to trial for the North West Netball team this coming weekend. Torah will be attending the State Championships in Brisbane for Touch Football in June! Well done girls!

Queensland Representative School Sport
Queensland Representative School Sport wish to advise you about the Queensland Academy of Sport’s state-wide talent identification opportunity that could potentially see students on a pathway to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
This program is called Youfor2032 and is designed to unearth the next generation of elite Queensland athletes who have the potential to win on the world stage, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There are up to 15 Olympic and 8 Paralympic sports looking to match their best coaches with Queensland’s best talent. It doesn’t matter if students have experience in any of these sports. Athletic ability coupled with a great attitude and supportive parents or guardians are the key ingredients needed to excel in this program.
Those successful in being selected for Youfor2032 will receive expert training, coaching and development support, from State and National Sporting Organisations as well as the QAS.
This could be the first step in an incredible journey for our students.
Please consider passing on the information about Youfor2032 to your schools and networks to provide every opportunity for Queensland students to explore their future sporting potential.
Visit the program website for more information – www.qld.gov.au/youfor2032
