Clarity & Learning Progress
It has been a priveledge to be in multiple classrooms this week witnessing the amazing progress that so many of our students are making in their learning, particularly in their literacy and numeracy skills. During classroom visits, myself and Miss Phillips ask the "5 Questions for Students":
- What are you learning?
- How are you going?
- How do you know?
- How can you improve?
- Where can you go for help?
The above questions provide us with information regarding the assessment literacy of our students, what help students may require and how confident they are feeling with their learning. We then collate this information to share with staff regarding any key themes we identify across the school. The questions are based on the research of Lyn Sharratt. I encourage you, as parents, to also consider asking these questions at home or speak with your child's teacher about what they are learning.
Sporting Success
A number of our students and Miss Murray are travelling to Barcaldine this weekend to participate in Cross Country trials. I wish each and everyone of them success and look forward to hearing of their adventures upon their return, I know they will represent Richmond State School with pride!
Principal Congress
I will be attending the Principal Congress meeting in Brisbane on Monday 6th June to continue my work advocating at a system level for Rural and Remote Education. I will provide an update in our next newsletter regarding the agenda and any outcomes achieved.
Until then,
Mrs Elizabeth Mayo
Principal
Head of Department - Curriculum
With less than 25 days of school left until the end of Term 2, unbelievable I know, I’d like to encourage you to send your child/children to school every day, unless they are unwell. Every Day Counts.
At Richmond State School, we promote the state wide initiative that aims to improve student attendance at school through a shared commitment by students, parents, caregivers, schools and the community.
Here are the four key messages:
- all children should be enrolled at school and attend on every school day
- schools should monitor, communicate and implement strategies to improve regular school attendance
- truanting can place a student in unsafe situations and impact on their future employability and life choices
- attendance at school is the responsibility of everyone in the community.
A student’s success at school is the sum of their efforts, repeated day in and day out. Absenteeism and truancy impacts significantly on students' learning and wellbeing. If your child does not want to go to school, or is missing school without you knowing, please contact the school immediately for assistance and support.

NAPLAN Online
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for 2022 is complete. Most students in years 3, 5, 7 & 9 gave their best effort to complete the writing task, reading, punctuation and grammar, and lastly the numeracy task. It was the first time the students engaged with NAPLAN ‘online’. Many walked out of the computer lab with smiles on their faces and making comments like ‘that was fun’, ‘when is our next test?’. Have you asked your son/daughter what they thought about the testing process? I would love to receive more feedback, please email any comments your son/daughter says to me.
There is no official word as when the results will be back, however the benefit of being online is they will be back sooner than when they were paper based. When I look in the NAPLAN platform, I can see some are being marked already. Each student will be receiving their own NAPLAN paper report, which will be sent home. The school will advise parents and caregivers when this occurs.
Semester 1 Report Cards
Teaching, learning and collection of evidence of student learning, for all year levels, will continue until the last day of Term 2 , Friday 24th June 2022. Teachers will be moderating tasks and composing report cards throughout the last week of school. Semester 1 report cards will be posted out in week one in term 3, after the holidays. If your postal details have changed recently, please drop by the office and have them updated.
Homework Club – Learning beyond the bell
Homework Club on Monday and Thursday will continue to run up to and including the last week of this term due to the delayed start in Term 1 and the number of public holidays at the beginning of this term. Letters of offer to have your son/daughters attend one homework club session in TERM THREE (3) will be sent out in week 7 and must be returned by week 9. If your child attends a homework club session already, you will need to complete another offer form. There is NO automatic carry over of attendance from this term.
Healthy Lunch Boxes
Just a brief reminder that your child’s lunch and snacks play a big role in supplying them with their daily nutritional needs. Nearly half of a child's daily nutrition needs should be met during the hours they are at school. A healthy lunch will give your child the essential nutrients and sustained energy they need to concentrate throughout the school day.
All children, no matter what their weight, height, gender or age need to eat from the five core food groups every day. To do this, aim to include in your child's lunchbox, fruit, wholegrain bread, salad or vegetables, meat or a meat alternative and reduced fat dairy such as cheese.
The Smart Choices Strategy ensures this applies to foods and drinks supplied by the school however it does not cover food brought from home. I have provided links below to some nutritional information and awesome easy ideas for a healthy lunch box.

Queensland Representative School Sport
Queensland Representative School Sport wish to advise you about the Queensland Academy of Sport’s state-wide talent identification opportunity that could potentially see students on a pathway to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
This program is called Youfor2032 and is designed to unearth the next generation of elite Queensland athletes who have the potential to win on the world stage, including the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
There are up to 15 Olympic and 8 Paralympic sports looking to match their best coaches with Queensland’s best talent. It doesn’t matter if students have experience in any of these sports. Athletic ability coupled with a great attitude and supportive parents or guardians are the key ingredients needed to excel in this program.
Those successful in being selected for Youfor2032 will receive expert training, coaching and development support, from State and National Sporting Organisations as well as the QAS.
This could be the first step in an incredible journey for our students.
Please consider passing on the information about Youfor2032 to your schools and networks to provide every opportunity for Queensland students to explore their future sporting potential.
Visit the program website for more information – www.qld.gov.au/youfor2032
