From the Principal
We have reached the half way point of 2022, upon recent reflection we have achieved so many gains and milestones as a whole school. Our students learning and achievement of their learning goals is the most exciting element to reflect on. Congratulations to all students on your dedication to improvement and learning. I look forward to welcoming everyone back through the school gates in Term 3 on Monday 11th July 2022.
*Please be aware that there will be a range of facilities projects occurring during the school break. It is essential that children do not access the grounds without Principal approval.
Semester 2 Events
We have a number of events already filling up the Term 3 and Term 4 calendars including transition programs, graduation events, Mid West Sports, swimming carnival, end of year awards ceremonies (just to name a few)...we will send our family calendars out early Term 3, please ensure you mark your diaries to avoid missing events.
Report Cards
Report cards are in the final stages of editing and will be sent to families at the beginnning of Term 3. We have altered the timelines of report cards back in response to the delayed start to the academic year.
Staffing Updates
Mrs Cheryle Stainkey will be taking some well deserved Long Service Leave throughout Term 3. We look forward to welcoming her back in Term 4.
We say goodbye to Shannan Sheehan at the conclusion of Term 2 so she can invest her time in personal ventures. We thank Miss Shannan for her valuable contributions to the RSS Team.

Head of Department - Curriculum
Firstly, I’d like to wish everyone a warm, bug free, safe holiday! Again, we have had a mammoth term and will be finishing it off with the introduction of our PBL Pirates on the last day, Friday. Hey me hardies, its going to be good!
School starts back on Monday 11th July 2022.
The start of semester 2 will see students studying a different Arts area from that taught this semester.
- Prep to Year 2 will focus on music and
- Years 3 to 10 will be studying dance.
The Arts will be taught by classroom teachers in the primary years and Mr Marshall will be taking a combined year 7 to 10 class for dance in the high school. Other areas of curriculum change will be in the technologies subject area, moving from design to digital technologies. These changes will commence from the first day of school in Term 3. High school students will be issued new timetables and some of the primary classes will have their specialist lessons reallocated to a different day and or time. Parent Curriculum Overviews will reflect these changes and be sent home during week 2 of term 3. Keep an eye out for the overview, along with the Family Calendar for the term.
Richmond State School continues to be all about numeracy – creating numerate learners. Over the break, keep identifying and highlighting moments in your child’s life where they are being numerate – using their math skills to communicate, participate and engage in society: live every day! Starting with the alarm clock, routines, setting the table, adding the correct washing powder quantity to the washer, following a recipe and working out a financial plan to be able to buy the latest and greatest x-box by Christmas!
Homework Club – Learning beyond the bell
Homework Club on Monday and Thursday will commence in week 2 of Term 3. Letters of allocation to a day for homework club (from those expressing an interest for their child/children to attend) were given to students during the last week of school. Please ensure you collect your child/children promptly at 4pm and let the school know if they will not be attending for any reason.
Student Achievements
Congratulations to all award recipients. You have been recognised for all of your hard work and dedication to learning and our school.

Lunch Time Activites
Positive Behaviour
The end of Term Two is fast approaching and the staff and students will be finishing off the term with a whole school reward. This reward is for consistently following the four school rules and acknowledges all of the hard work and commitment that our students have demonstrated throughout the term. This is also an opportunity to introduce our new PBL mascot, the PBL pirate and showcase the numeracy skills the students have developed over the term.
Students will have an opportunity to dress up like a pirate for the last day of school. These can be homemade or pre-existing pirate costumes. We do not expect that families purchase new costumes for this event. The school will be running workshops to make pirate hats and eye patches leading up to the day during break times.
Friday 24th June
- Period 1 – Normal School routine
- Period 2 – Normal School routine
- Period 3 – All students will review Term Two Learning Goals; set new Term Three Learning Goals and engage in class rewards from their Class Reward Menu.
- Period 4 - All students will participate in a Pirate Treasure Hunt. They will be following treasure maps and completing numeracy activities to win prizes.
Athletics Carnival
Friday 17th June the Ferocious Flinders Frogs took on the Mighty Mitchell Monsters at Charlie Wehlow Oval, to see who would be victorius and win the 2022 Athletics Trophy.
The competition was long & hard with the Flinders Frogs coming out on top by a narrow margin.
Thanks to the P&C for keeping competitors, Mums & Dads, spectators and staff fuelled up with the yummiest food. Miss Sinden, what can we say about your fantastic Mitchell and Flinders treats, they were AMAZING.
Without the hard work of Miss Murray, the carnival would not have been the success it was. Thank you Miss Murray and everyone that contributed to this successful event.
Mid West Sport News
Cross Country
A couple of weeks ago, a group of Richmond State School students represented our school with pride for the Mid West Cross Country team at the North West trials. All of the students ran a great race! We are super proud of all of their hard work at training prior to the trials, they were all stand out runners on the track! Liam and Dustin came first for their age group and Dustin has been selected in the North West team and is heading to the State Championships next month. Goodluck in Yatala at the State Championships Dustin!
