2023 Explicit Improvement Agenda
As you know, I value the input and guidance of our students, parents and community members as to the direction and next steps for our school. I am eager to hear your thoughts about what we should focus on for 2023.
Below is a QR Code (and link) for you to access a survey which provides an opportunity for parents to provide us with your thoughts and feedback about our school. I look forward to reviewing your feedback in coming weeks.

State Principal Conference (10-12th October) + Principal Business Days
During Week 2, I had the privilege of joining with principal’s from across Queensland to provide feedback on the draft State School Strategy – “Excellence in Education”. The strategy is underpinned by 3 key elements; A strong start, On track for success, Ready for the future. Feedback provided during the conference will inform the strategy which will be release in coming months. Once the document is released, I will share further information with you.
Principal Business Days – Mount Isa (25th October & 15th November)
Principals in the North Queensland Region (NQR) will be coming together for Principal Business Days in either Townsville or Mount Isa. This term, myself and Cheryl P will be attending these in Mount Isa to work with our Assistant Regional Director and Regional Director and provide feedback on our school progress. Miss Tanya Sinden will be Officer in Charge during our absence.

Head of Department - Curriculum
A huge shout out to Regional Development Australia – north west region, James Cook University Future Students & Saint Catholics College, Richmond State School P & C and Sun Ferries Townsville for their support which enabled our Year 8, 9 and 10 students to travel to Townsville for a Careers Education Camp. The purpose of the camp was to open the students’ eyes and minds to further education and career pathways, as well as a few regional town cultural experiences! Please catch up with any one of the amazing students and ask them what they learnt, found out about and or experienced. Also a big thank you to Laidlow Supermarket for providing work experience opportunity. A brief overview video of the camp can be viewed on the Richmond State School FaceBook page.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN individual student reports (year 3, 5, 7 & 9) from the 2022 NAPLAN tests were posted out last week. There were certainly some fantastic results in there to celebrate, as several students’ achievements were well above the expected level of achievement for their year level! It was the first time Richmond State School students have sat the online tests (year 3 writing was still pencil and paper based) and the enthusiasm and engagement of the students was high. If you have any queries about the report, please contact your son/daughter’s teacher.
NAPLAN IN 2023
Yes, we need to talk about next year already. In 2023, the test window has been brought forward! Students in year 3, 5, 7 & 9 will undertake the online NAPLAN tests between 15th - 27th March, that is week 8 & 9 of Term 1. We will be ensuring all relative students are familiar with the platform in the early weeks of 2023. If your child is looking for a space to play online over the coming holidays, direct them to https://nap.edu.au/naplan/public-demonstration-site where they can practice using the tools and features within the platform.
Lastly, parent curriculum overviews will be distributed in week 3. You will see there is still a lot of learning your son or daughter will need to engage with throughout this last term of school. So just a reminder that everyday counts and right up to the final days of school, teachers will be teaching and assessing students learning. Students evidence of learning will be moderated within the final weeks and their overall level of achievement for semester 2 recorded on their report card which will be posted on the last day of school.

Library News
During 2022 we have purchased over 350 new books, with more books to come. Please come in and browse our shelves.
Students have been consulted about new purchases and our Library Leader, Alyssa has been working hard to ensure our book series are completed. If you have any suggestions on titles that your child may like to read please let us know.
We will be closing student borrowing from week 6. Could you please check at home for any books that may need to be returned, this will help us with next years book purchases.
During third term the middle room was turned into a quiet place for students who might just need some time to themselves. This has been a project that has been a dream for some time now. Come and have a look at the space that has been created - which would not have been possible without the dedication of Miss Julie and Miss Megan.
Chappy Charlie
Chappy Charlie visited the school during week 2. It was wonderful to have him sing and play his guitar, he will be doing virtual visits in the library each friday during second break.
