Welcome to Term 2 already!
There is strong evidence that parent engagement is connected with improved academic achievement for students of all ages, prep through to year 10. When parents are involved with their child’s school and their learning:
- attendance increases
- positive behaviours are promoted
- students build and maintain healthy relationships with peers and
- there is a boost in the student’s self-esteem and attitude towards learning.
These positive outcomes highlight some of the benefits parental (and community) involvement and engagement has towards a child’s learning.
At Richmond State School, we support and encourage parent involvement through attendance at school events, volunteering in class and serving on the school P & C committees. We also encourage parent engagement with student learning through being involved with the broad range of extra curricula activities offered, supporting your children’s learning at home through homework and at Learning Beyond the Bell, whilst recognising the cultural and social diversity of families in our community.
There are lots of extra curricula activities and events coming up this term that you could become involved in or engage with:
- Under 8s Community Day
- Premiers Reading Challenge
- Book Fair
- Outback Futures Visit - parent session + student sessions
- Athletics Carnival
- Planetarium Activity
- Crazy Sock Day
- Richmond State School - High School Information evening: for those wondering where to send their son or daughter to for years 7 to 10.
Which event will you engage with?
Contact your child’s teacher to see how you can become involved or register your interest!
Most of these events were listed on the term calendar that was distributed in week 1, however at times, the dates may change, and new events pop up. Changes are published on the school Facebook Page and QZine app or distrusted to families through the students.
Parent Curriculum Overviews
Wondering what your child is learning? Each term, the teachers produce a Parent Curriculum Overview for every year level to let you know what your child is learning in their classroom for every key learning area. The Curriculum overviews outline the learning journey and summary of what students will be learning and how they will be assessed. All the staff at Richmond State School value the terrific assistance you give at home, which supports the work your child does at school as detailed in these overviews. Parent Curriculum Overviews will be distributed during week 3, please keep an eye out for them.
Student Achievements
Congratulations to all award recipients. You have been recognised for your hard work and dedication to learning & our school.

Principal Award
Colt Veli was awarded special principal award for excellence in writing.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
At the beginning of each term it has become best practice to revisit and update our classroom expectations. Teachers and students have developed their classroom expectations together, which provides an opportunity for the students to take ownership and responsibility for the positive culture in each learning environment. All class expectations align with the Richmond State School Behaviour Expectations, this ensures continuity of language and standards for staff and students across the school. Next time you are visiting our classrooms, please take the time to check out these expectations as they are displayed on the PBL display wall in each learning area.
Students and staff have also been working collaboratively to update their PBL Reward Menus for Term Two. Teachers will be sharing this document with parents and carers shortly. As students reach identified goals, they can collect rewards from the Happy Voucher Rewards Menu. Icy-poles, milk-shakes, special pencils and stationery are just some examples of potential rewards for students. Once a student has reached a reward, their achievement is recorded and a certificate is generated for the student to take home and share with their family.
