Principal
Dear Families,
Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful and refreshing break over the school holidays. It has been a delight to see our students return with such enthusiasm and positivity as we kick off Term 3.
I would like to begin by acknowledging the outstanding conduct of our students who represented our school with pride at the ANZAC Day March. Their behaviour was exemplary, and our student leaders spoke with maturity, clarity, and deep respect—true ambassadors for our school. A heartfelt thank you to the families who supported this important community event.
It has been wonderful to see our students settle back into their routines so quickly, engaging in their learning with focus and energy. Term 2 is always a pivotal one, as we see students building on their progress and confidently tackling new challenges.
We are also pleased to welcome several new enrolments this term. A warm welcome to the new students and their families—we are excited to get to know you and support you throughout your learning journey here with us.
This term, many of our students are participating in sporting trials, with staff supporting them as coaches or managers. Congratulations to those who have been selected and well done to everyone who tried out. In PE this term, students have been honing their athletics skills in preparation for the upcoming athletics carnival later in the term. Please remember to check the school calendar and our Facebook page for these important dates.
As part of our 2025 Annual Implementation Plan, one of our key priorities is to ensure that every student receives teaching and learning that is tailored to their individual needs. Over the next two weeks, all teaching staff will be involved in a cycle of classroom observations and feedback, focusing on how we are meeting the diverse learning needs of our students. This is an important process that happens each term, providing an opportunity for teachers and school leaders to reflect, share insights, and continually improve.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss the support your child is receiving, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their classroom teacher.
We are also excited to welcome Mrs Amy Jeffery, who will be teaching specialist subjects in the Primary classrooms. Mrs Jeffery will be with us on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Special Visitor Announcement:
We are thrilled to announce that on Tuesday, 13th May, we welcomed a very special guest to Richmond and our school—Her Excellency the Honourable Dr. Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland. We are deeply honoured to have had Her Excellency visit.
Brainteaser:
Here’s a fun challenge for the whole family! The first person to email the Principal with the correct answer will receive a prize.
Riddle:
It can be long or short, grown or bought, painted or left bare, and can be round or square in shape. What am I?
As always, my door is open, and I encourage all parents and carers to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
Until next time,
Rebecca

From the Deputy Principal’s Desk
As I begin my role as Deputy Principal at Richmond State School, I want to sincerely thank our staff, students, and families for such a warm welcome. It’s been a fantastic start to Term 2, and I’m already incredibly proud of what I’ve seen across the school.
Our staff have been deeply engaged in professional development around differentiation—ensuring every student is supported and challenged at the right level. During recent walkthroughs, it’s been great to see students focused, enthusiastic, and engaged in learning tasks tailored to their needs.
Outside the classroom, the effort and dedication from our students and staff has been just as impressive. The recent Cross-Country event was a great example—despite the heat, everyone gave their best, encouraged one another, and represented our school with pride. A huge well done to all involved.
Congratulations also to the students who recently travelled to compete in Touch Football and Rugby League. Your commitment, teamwork, and positive attitude stood out, and you represented Richmond with pride. It’s fantastic to see students embracing opportunities beyond the classroom.
I also want to commend the students who contributed to our ANZAC Day ceremony. They did an exceptional job representing our school with pride and respect, helping to deliver a moving and meaningful tribute.
I look forward to what the rest of the term brings and continuing to celebrate the great work happening here at Richmond.
Warm regards,
Scott Jeffery

Head of Department - Curriculum
What a great start we have had to Term 2 in our school! We have welcomed new students, staff and families to our school community, and teaching and learning has started with enthusiasm!
3/4 Excursion to Kronosaurus Korner
Well done to our 3/4 students and teachers who went on an excursion to Kronosaurus Korner last week to support their English Unit this term – students will be creating an information report on a dinosaur fossil found in Richmond! Attending the museum and hearing from a real paleontologist brought an engaging and contextualised element to learning. Thank you to Mrs Buick & Miss Grundy for planning this activity for our students.
Parent Involvement in Learning
There are many events coming up over this term, and I encourage you to get involved with our school however you can. There is strong evidence that parent engagement is connected with improved academic achievement for students of all ages, prep through to year 10. When parents are involved with their child’s school and their learning:
- attendance increases
- positive behaviours are promoted
- students build and maintain healthy relationships with peers and
- there is a boost in the student’s self-esteem and attitude towards learning.
These positive outcomes highlight some of the benefits parental (and community) involvement and engagement has towards a child’s learning.
At Richmond State School, we support and encourage parent involvement through attendance at school events, volunteering in class and serving on the school P & C committee. We also encourage parent engagement with student learning through being involved with the broad range of extra-curricular activities offered, supporting your children’s learning at home through homework and keeping in regular contact with your child’s teacher/s.
Below are just some of the events happening this term:
- P-2 Reading Parent Information Session
- Premier’s Reading Challenge
- Athletics Carnival
- Book Fair
- Field Days
- Simultaneous story time
- P&C and Student Council fundraising
- Breakfast club (every Friday)
- Under 8’s Day
I encourage you to get involved!
Parent Curriculum Overviews
As a new term begins, new units of work have begun, and semester units of work are continuing with fidelity. This week families will receive Parent Curriculum Overviews for each child. These overviews outline the learning your child will be participating in this term in every learning area, and how and when they will be assessed on their learning. We have also included the teacher’s contact details, should you wish to speak to them about a particular subject. The Parent Curriculum Overviews have also been included in this edition of the newsletter. Please feel free to contact the school office or our teachers directly via email if you have any questions.

Student awards are given to students who have followed the 4 school rules and gone above to develop learning.
Congratulations to the winners in week 2.
Due to public Holidays in week one and week three, no awards were given.

Classrooms
Year 3/4 took a step back in time and visited Kronosaurus Korner. Thank you to all the staff who welcomed and provided us with quality information about the land before time.
You just never know, we might have a future curator in the 3/4 classrooms.

Sport
Thursday of Week One, students ran in our Interhouse Cross Country. Miss Baartz spent many hours to make sure the day went off without a hitch.
Thank you to the P&C volunteers who cooked lunch and prepared fruit for students to enjoy and keep them fuelled for the day. Lunch and Fruit was provided by our School Food Program. Alongside our BBQ & fruit, the P&C had a Cake Stall with lots of tasty treats for sale.
Congratulations to all of out students that came on the day to participate and cheer on their friends. We had a number of students that had running times that qualified them in the Mid-West Cross Country Team. These students all travelled to Barcaldine with their parents in Week 4.

Day For Dolly-A Wonderful Day of Kindnes
Our school proudly supported Day for Dolly, raising over $100 in gold coin donations and, more importantly, raising awareness about the importance of kindness, compassion, and speaking up against bullying.
It was fantastic to see so many students and staff wearing blue in solidarity, creating a strong visual message of support across the school.
At lunchtime, students took part in blue-themed colouring activities in the library, focused on kindness and connection. It was wonderful to see the whole school come together to support such an important cause, with a real sense of unity and care on display.
Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make the day such a success.

Parents and Citizens
Term 2 for 2025, has come around quite quickly!
We had an awesome Term 1 for fundraising, and we are looking forward to extending it into Term 2.
To start with we raised over $1000 in our Easter raffle.
Our massive raffle, for the Yamaha Buggy, is going great with tickets selling quite fast. Remember tickets are only $20 each and are limited to 2000 available tickets in total.
Our cross country was held on Thursday the 24th of April 2025.
Congratulations to all the children who participated. It was fantastic to see so many families there to support our children.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all the volunteers who dedicated their time and efforts, especially those who cooked the sausage sizzle, baked the goods, and served at the event. We raised a whooping $351, because of your efforts, thank you so much! Without your support these fundraisers wouldn’t happen.
We are also holding a fundraiser for Mother’s Day, which is a Mother’s Day Mini Photo Session with the very talented Renee Backer Photography. This proved to be a fantastic fundraiser last year, an also a great gift for the lucky Mums.
At our last General Meeting Tiffany Flute was nominated and voted in for the position of Treasurer on the Richmond State School P&C executive committee, we look forward to working with Tiffany in the 2025 year.
We encourage all parents to join the P&C as a member. By doing so you can receive the emails from the monthly general meetings if you can’t make it and have your say on how you would like the P&C to support our school. We aim to help all students from Prep to Grade 10, and welcome new ideas for improvements and fundraising.
For more information please don’t hesitate to speak to one of our committee members.
