Extra Curricula Opportunities @ Richmond
In conjunction with offering our RSS students excellence in education, the staff at Richmond State School also go above and beyond to ensure access to a large array of extra-curricula opportunities. This dedication ensures that our students are not disadvantaged by their geographical location.
A snapshot of how we provide for our students:
- Sporting Schools Opportunities – Term 2: Golf
- Mid-West and North West Sporting Opportunities
- Upcoming Sports Coaching Clinics
- Master Class offerings (semesterly)
- Community Dance Classes
- Swimming Club
- Leadership Programs
- Camp program for upper years students
Please speak with a member of staff if you have any suggestions of other opportunities we can offer our students or if you would like to volunteer to support these offerings.
NAPLAN
This week our Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 students have participated in NAPLAN testing.
NAPLAN gives a snapshot of how children are performing in reading, writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and numeracy. It complements other effective classroom assessment and reporting practices. Teachers have supported students to ensure they are prepared for the testing conditions. As a school we provided some special breakfast snacks for the students prior to testing beginning.
Congratulations to all of our Year 3, 5, 7 & 9 students!
Uniform Review
Our P&C has been working tirelessly on a range of projects, one of which is the review of our Richmond State School Uniform and the associated Student Dress Code. We are seeking your opinion during the consultation phase of our uniform review.
Designs will be shared on the school bulletin board outside of the office, on our school Facebook page and at parade in coming weeks. We look forward to releasing the proposed designs and hearing from our students and parents.

Premiers reading challenge 2021
Last year Richmond State School was one of the 905 schools and 318 centres who took part in the 2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge, combining more than 161,000 Queensland children and students reading 2.23 million books. What an awesome achievement!
The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual state-wide initiative for students from Prep to Year 9. The aim of the program is to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.
The reading period for the 2021 Premier's Reading Challenge has begun! Your child should have brought home a note explaining how to participate in the challenge and their reader record form earlier this week.
Please help your child record the books they read on their reader record form and return to their teacher by the 27th of August. Every student who completes the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier.
To complete the challenge:
- Prep to Year 2 must read or experience at least 20 books,
- Years 3 and 4 must read at least 20 books, and
- Years 5 to 9 must read at least 15 books.
You can play a big part in your children’s future by encouraging them to be part of this positive initiative. Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books. The aim for the 2021 challenge is to engage more students to read than ever before!
Attached with this issue of the newsletter is a suggested booklist for each age group if you are stuck for new reading ideas. Students are encouraged to try reading different genres of books during the challenge to widen their reading experiences. Our library has a wide variety of books available for students to borrow – everything from the classics to brand new and exciting books for every reading ability and interest!
We look forward to seeing as many of our students as possible take part in the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
